Thank you for visiting my site... Over the years I have produced portraits and commissions for a wide range of clients, from people wanting a portrait of a friend or family member to corperations who commission large paintings for their boardrooms and offices. Others commission paintings of their pets.... Whatever the occassion, I can work with you to produce the painting you're seeking. You also have the knowledge that you are dealing directly with myself, the artist and not a tangle of agents and dealers who simply pass on the work to the cheapest option that leaves the client unhappy and out of pocket.
Also, you will be kept informed and sent images of how your commissioned painting is progressing, and make suggestions if you wish.
...I have a second website with paintings of Liverpool, local scenes & more, please click here to see Liverpool paintings...

LEFT. An oil portrait of a terretorial soldier painted prior to his departure to Afghanistan. This portrait was done from photographs, though I also produce portraits in my studio at Haskayne on Merseyside. While it's important to create a likeness with a portrait, I feel it must also work as a painting in its own right. A painting that can be viewed by someone unknown to the sitter and yet feel moved by it. Often I see portraits that are simply a careful copy of the photograph the artist was working from and takes no account of the medium the artist was working in. One might as well simply frame the photograph.

RIGHT: Another example of one of my oil portraits. This is Wheldon, who at the time was living in a retirement home in North Wales. Once again I've attempted to, not only catch the likeness, but also to produce a painting full of texture and mark making.

Liverpool waterfront at night.oils on canvas
This is an example of a typical commission. The client got in touch with me via email asking for a quote. And we went from there. This is probably the first painting of the recently redeveloped waterfront and the client had worked on many of the new buildings. Throughout the painting I emailed photos of the painting as it progressed. The client felt that he was then taking a full part in the paintings eventual completion. In fact, the finished painting prompted me to produce a limited edition print from it.

Early morning sunrise over Liverpool.
An atomospheric painting, commissioned by the Royal Liver Assurance company, based in Liverpool. The company had seen other paintings similiar to this subject and commissioned me to produce the following painting, with the Manx ferry in the foreground.

Another popular subject, peoples' loved pets. Most done from photographs, therefore it's important for an artist to work from a good quality photo.

Tall-ships leaving the river mersey, 2008. oils on canvas
Liverpool celebrated being the Capital of Culture in 2008. This gave me the wonderful opportunity to gather information for a series of paintings. This is one. On the day of the parade of sail, I booked a place on one of the ferries which anchored off the mouth of the river, the best location to take photographs as the tall-ships headed for the Irish Sea.
